Click-and-collect service
During the Christmas period, 40% of shoppers used the Argos click and collect service. The service is designed to cut the time spent waiting in long lines in store. The customer chooses the store nearest to them, and can choose a time to collect their order.
Click and collect is available at more than 700 stores in the UK, including 650 Argos stores. Customers can search for products on the Argos website, and then decide which store is the most convenient to collect the item. After selecting the store, customers can pay online with a credit card or gift card.
Customers can also choose the delivery time they want. They can either collect the item on the same day, or up to seven days later. Argos will offer customers a range of options, including Fast Track, which enables customers to pick up their items within four hours.
Click and collect has been a growing part of Argos’s business since the service was first launched in 2000. It now accounts for about a third of Argos’ business.
Mobile commerce
Purchasing items using a mobile device has become a common practice. Consumers can shop for a wide range of products, including books, DVDs, plane tickets, and digital music. Using mobile applications, consumers can receive push notifications when an order is ready. Using a mobile application allows shoppers to pay without using their debit or credit card.
In the first quarter of its financial year, Argos saw a 114% increase in customers shopping with smartphones and tablets. This growth was driven by the retailer’s multichannel experience, which connects shoppers with the large network of physical stores. The retailer’s mobile apps allow shoppers to view products in-person, visualize them with augmented reality, and upload photos of their living room. Customers also can receive location-specific content and coupons.
The retailer also launched a pay-as-you-go plan with Vodafone that allows shoppers to collect Nectar points when topping up their mobile phones. In addition, consumers can select a delivery channel. This allows them to make purchasing decisions based on where they are and what they need.
